Surge Diverters
E40/280 & E40/280/NONC
The Electromark surge diverter is designed for primary mains protection. Installed just after the main switch and before any earth leakage unit, it is connected from line(s) to earth and neutral to earth; checking that earth is well grounded. These units are designed to dissipate extremely severe lightening-induced transients of up to 40,000 Amps, and divert them to ground.
Surge diverters are installed in parallel, preferably after the main switch and before any earth leakage units. They are connected from one phase to a solid ground at the power inlet, thus protecting any equipment down stream. Surge Diverters soak up any spikes that come in on the 240Vac line, either Lightening induced or Electrically induced, eg "spot welders" or "motor starters".
There are 2 models available, both constructed from electrical grade plastic with a case that is designed to be DIN rail mounted, both with MOV modules inside for circuit protection and a fused mechanical disconnect. In the disconnect condition a flag colour change appears at the "indicator window" and the exhausted unit is disconnected from the circuit. At this stage the unit should be replaced, as it offers no protection.
The basic model offers an "indicator window" showing unit status, "OK" or "REPLACE" and the unit automatically disconnects on "REPLACE" condition.
The remote-sensing model offers an "indicator window" showing unit status, "OK" or "REPLACE" and the unit automatically disconnects on "REPLACE" condition. In addition there are a set of dry contacts on this unit, used for remote sensing, They can indicate either, healthy or replace depending on requirements. The contacts give N/O or N/C options and can be used to check unit status, either by PLC alarm or indicator lights if a change occurs in the condition of the surge diverter. Max. Current on the contacts is 1A/240Vac or 500mA at DC.
Both units are rated at 40kA but other sizes are also available. IEEE considers lightening strikes induce a maximum of 10kA inside buildings. 40kA metal oxide protection will offer reliable protection with extra margin.
