Partech Instruments have been designing sludge blanket sensors for 50 years - introducing the first infra red blanket sensors (1965) as well as the first automated (tracking) sludge systems (1974).
The latest 7300W2 monitors allow local control of even complex pump systems with multiple sensor inputs. The Partech range includes: handheld portable Sludge Blanket Detectors for spot checks as well as highly sophisticated continuous monitors.
Partech also offers a selection of sensors for use in conjunction with these instruments. All the sensors use infrared attenuation as their operating principle; this makes them sufficiently sensitive for use on thin water treatment sludges as well as the more usual sewage treatment applications
ASLD2200 for Continuous Sludge Blanket Monitoring
The ASLD2200 is a fully automatic sludge blanket level detector designed for the water and wastewater industry. It utilises a servo-driven sensor, which continually tracks the settled interface with the sensor at the very top of the interface zone.
The ASLD2200 is supplied with a sensor that uses infrared attenuation as the principle of operation, which allows Partech to ensure sufficient sensitivity to monitor sludge blankets in a wide variety of applications.
The sensor will normally be positioned in the area of the tank just above the sludge and will therefore be kept away from the worst of the fouling that can occur in the treatment of either potable or dirty water.
Provision must be made for transmission of the output signal to the control system; this is normally possible via spare slip rings. Where this is not possible a radio telemetry option is available, allowing transmission directly to the control system without the need for installation of cables.
SludgeWatch Ultra Sludge Blanket Monitor
The SludgeWatch Ultra utilises the industry accepted look down ultrasonic or 'sonar' method of detecting and tracking the interface between sludge and water in water, wastewater and industrial effluent settlement tanks and clarifiers. The cleaning wiper operates automatically to remove dirt and air bubbles that can interfere with the measurement.
Advanced echo processing algorithms allow the monitor to cope with variations in sludge density, material that is floating in the tanks and moving scrappers arms.
The monitor can operate two transducers, allowing two tanks to be controlled from a single system.
8100 and 8200 Sludge Blanket Detectors
The 8100 and 8200 monitors provide an exceptionally simple and reliable method of detecting the sludge blanket level in clarifiers and settlement tanks in wastewater, drinking water and industrial effluent treatment. The 8100 Monitor is suitable for mounting outdoors on the bridge of settlement tanks, as the enclosure is IP65 rate.
The 8200 Monitor is a two-channel version of the monitor providing the option of alarming at two positions in a tank or on two tanks that are located close together.
SludgeWatch 715 Portable Sludge Blanket Detector
The SludgeWatch 715 provides a simple, low cost method of spot-checking the sludge blanket level in a wide variety of settlement tanks.
The cable reel design removes the need for any additional carrying bag. The sludge blanket is detected by winding the sensor down into the tank, the audible tone will change and the LED illuminates once the sensor has reached the blanket.
This method of sludge blanket detection offers major improvements over traditional SludgeJudge type systems in terms of both repeatability and importantly health and safety - no more manhandling 4 metre tubes full of contaminated wastewater.
