Centec Optical Oxygen Sensor | OxyTrans
The Oxygen concentration transmitter OxyTrans TR measures continuously and accurately measures the content of oxygen in liquids and gases. While the OxyTrans was originally designed for breweries, it has found service in other industries demanding these levels of accuracy, for example power plants or bioreactors. The O2-concentration can be displayed in different units like ppb, ppm, %oxygen, etc.
The optical principle of measurement is based on dynamic luminescence quenching by molecular oxygen. The indicator layer on the glass installed in the measuring head is illuminated with a blue-green-light. Using the energy of this blue-green light, the indicator molecules are elevated to an excited state. As this indicator molecules return to their normal state they emit a red light. This red light is detected by the internal detector.
The key principle of measurement is this: If oxygen is in the medium, this luminescence effect is prevented as the blue-green light energy is absorbed by the oxygen molecule and not the indicator molecule. As a result, the indicator molecule does neither absorb the blue-green energy nor emit the red energy. The measured luminescence then decreases in a linear relationship to the oxygen concentration.
