14 & 28V DC Solenoid Coils | Sun
However, with the engine operating, the typical "running" terminal voltage supplied from an alternator-battery system is 14.0-14.5V DC and 28-28.5V DC respectively.
On "running" mobile systems, a standard 12 or 24 V DC solenoid coil is actually over-voltaged by up to 21%. In applications where the coil is energized for very long periods of time in high ambient conditions, the coil winding insulation may prematurely fail due to over temperature.
To prevent early failure in these situations, Sun is offering coils rated for 14 and 28 V DC.
They are offered with both DIN 43650 and Deutsch electrical connectors
The coils are completely interchangeable with other Sun 770 series solenoid coils.
The use of 14 and 28 V DC coils in place of 12 and 24 V DC coils respectively does result in slighty lower solenoid actuating force at a given applied voltage.
Published performance characteristics for Sun solenoid valves are still valid when the applied voltage is within 10% of nominal coil rated voltage.
Therefore, published valve performance is not affected as long as the applied voltage is not lower than 12.6 V DC for 14 V DC coils and 25.2 V DC for 28 V DC coils. Below these voltages, some performance degradation can be expected.
