These ultrafiltration cartridges are designed to fit into standard big blue housings. With the ability to remove particles down to 0.01 microns in size, which includes 99.99% of bacteria and viruses while retaining important minerals for drinking, these cartridges are ideal for whole house systems with the ability to produce clean water suitable for drinking.

The Ultrafiltration Cartridge for Big Blue Filter Housings uses thousands of ultrafiltration hollow fibre membrane strands. Each membrane strand contains billions of microscopic pores. Household water pressure pushes water molecules through these pores towards the hollow centre of the membrane. The membrane filtration provides 99.9999% reduction of bacteria and 99.99% of virus by mechanical means. Filtered water then flows through each fibre and is distributed to every household fixture.

Due to the small pore size, particles that are too large to pass through are physically blocked out, while dissolved salts and essential minerals freely pass through.

Unlike Reverse Osmosis, Ultrafiltration does not remove the dissolved mineral salts, hence the filtered water is not acidic and provides improved health benefits.

The primary advantages of low-pressure UF membrane processes compared with conventional clarification and disinfection (post chlorination) processes are:

• No need for chemicals (coagulants, flocculates, disinfectants, pH adjustment).
• Ideal for drinking and beverage  water sterile  filtration where the natural occurring minerals are retained

It is recommended that a  5 micron sediment filter is installed prior to ultrafiltration to protect the hollow fibres  contained within the UF module.  If rain water is used we also recommend a carbon block filter after the 5 micron sediment filter.
