RPA does work and works extremely well. So if the robotic process itself works, what can you do to ensure the process of setting it up goes just as smoothly?
Prepare and communicate
The first job is to get everybody on board and positive. That means all stakeholders and employees. They need to be sitting right beside you the entire journey and you need to give them free reign to be a backseat driver; to have input on how your robotic masterpiece will look and work.
Of course the main people providing input will be the experts, your process SMEs, IT specialists and project managers.
Don't cross your ITs
You might find that your IT department are the most resistant to RPA plans. Which may sound strange, but robotic process automation is an operational process and it doesn't require traditional IT methods.
The sooner you get IT to understand this and work towards the right solution the better. IT can be a challenge, so get them in early, meet with key people to explain the software and the concept.
And make sure you provide documentation covering setup and security. Keep them in the loop once the project has started.
Accommodate your robots
Where will they be located? Will they be controlled from a PC, in a cloud or in a virtual environment?
Once you've got your infrastructure sorted, keep in contact with IT so you know of any changes and can make sure they don't adversely affect your RPA plans.
