Replacing Home Made Blow Off Pipe Saves Manufacturer $13,665 per pipe

A food processing plant who just eliminated 30 of their homemade blowoffs and replaced them with an Exair Super Air Knife saved $13,665 per year with each pipe replaced!

Replacing a single home made drilled pipe can significantly reduce energy costs It did for A food processing plant who just eliminated 30 of their homemade blowoffs saved $13,665 per year with each pipe replaced.

Here's the math!
  1. Existing blowoff is approx. 500mm long pipe with 54 x 2.38mm diameter holes operating at 80 PSIG (5.5 BAR). Air consumption from chart is 9.4 SCFM per hole. Total air consumption is
    54 x 9.4 = 507.6 SCFM
  2. Use 24" (610mm) Super Air Knife with standard .002" gap and 80 PSIG supply.  Air consumption from chart is 2.9 per inch. Total air consumption is 24 x 2.9 = 69.6 SCFM
  3. Compressed air saved = 507.6 SCFM - 69.6 SCFM = 438 SCFM
  4. Most large plants know their air cost.  If you don't know your actual cost, a reasonable average to use is $0.25 per 1000 SCF
  5. Dollars saved per hour = SCFM saved x 60 minutes x cost/1000 SCF = 438 x 60 x $0.25/1000

= $6.57 per hour
= $262.80 per 40 hour week
$13,665.60 per year savings*

*Based on national average electricity cost of 8.3 cents per kWh. Annual cost reflects 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year.

A 24" (610mm) Stainless Steel Super Air Knife would save enough in compressed air costs to
pay for itself in less than seven (7) weeks!
