How can we increase the scale of production and penetration of Australian manufactured products? As part of National Manufacturing Week’s four day free speaker program, running from 9 – 12 May 2017, Australian Advanced Manufacturing Council’s John Pollaers will discuss the emerging market opportunities, workforce development needs and recommended government actions to grow the scale of Australian manufacturing.
His session, scheduled for 9 May 10.40 – 11.5am, will explore the key characteristics of successful prime and SME manufacturers, looking at how they successfully differentiated their offering into clear market niches with a strong focus on R&D. Pollaers will also discuss how coordinated investment in manufacturing and well-targeted tax incentives, along with promoting greater regulatory stability, will support the expansion of manufacturing in Australia.
Australian Manufacturing Growth Centre’s Dr Jens Goennermann will follow with a discussion of their first Sector Competitiveness Plan, which details how the Australian manufacturing sector and its supported industries could be well positioned to add up to $36 billion to the national economy over the next ten years.
Goennermann brings extensive experience managing large advanced manufacturing operations in Australia and Europe, offering delegates an overview of the factors driving sector competiveness along with pathways for growth and sustainability – particularly for industry and government. He will also discuss how the extension of R&D tax incentives can support higher risk and longer timeframe innovation pipelines.
Those interested in the changing global manufacturing landscape can hear CSIRO Manufacturing’s Keith McLean discuss their roadmap for transforming Australia’s manufacturing sector over the next 20 years. Discussion will include Australia’s competitive advantages and disadvantages, the latest cutting edge developments in enabling science and technology as well as progress to date on roadmap implementation.
McLean, Goennermann and Pollaers join more than 50 industry experts in discussing the latest research, innovation and best practice in manufacturing. These include high profile representatives from Transdev, Universal Robots (Singapore), Solentive, Anatomics, BOC, Clipsec by Schneider Electrics, Sustainable Manufacturing Futures, Lockheed Martin Australia, HTA Group and the Australian Manufacturing Forum.
