The Red Bull Holden Racing Team held its annual driver evaluation day at Queensland Raceway earier this year with American professional racing driver Jordan Taylor cutting some laps in the new next-generation Holden Commodore Supercar.
Taylor is the youngest son of sports car veteran Wayne Taylor, and races a Cadillac Prototype in the IMSA Series for Wayne Taylor Racing. In 2017 he won the Daytona 24 Hours as well as the IMSA Championship title itself. He also has three podiums to his name at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the GT category with Chevrolet.
An avid fan of the Supercars category, Taylor took time out from his preparations for the forthcoming 2018 24 Hours of Daytona to dash to Australia for a run in the latest Commodore, which was launched in Sydney on Jan 2018.
“It was a good experience to get my first taste of a Supercar, I got a good feel for it and it leaves me wanting more,” Jordan Taylor said. “My first impressions were a bit of a shock, it’s a lot different to the cars that I’m used to driving"
“Obviously, being from the States with a Prototype and GT background where we have the paddle shift. So then when I come here and experience the Supercar and see that it’s only the right foot and the hands, and still having to use (a gear lever) and clutch was a big lesson."
“I was very much looking forward to the experience and the day surpassed all of my expectations in positive ways – I loved the experience of driving a Supercar.”
Sharing driving duties was Dunlop Super2 Series driver Kurt Kostecki under the watchful eye of 2017 Supercars Champion Jamie Whincup and team mate Shane van Gisbergen.
The Red Bull Holden Racing Team’s next-generation Holden Commodore Supercars will join the remainder of the category at the Supercars Test Day at Sydney Motorsport Park in Feb 2018.
Further increasing the excitement, the Red Bull Holden Racing Team has given fans a sneak peek at its 2018 Commodore Supercar - the brand new, next-generation Holden race car featuring a fresh, bold livery to show off the sleek hatchback body shape and advanced aerodynamic competition package.
Reigning Supercars Champion Jamie Whincup is excited to reveal the all new look and design to fans across the world of what he marks as the best looking Commodore yet.
“We’ve decided to really change it up with the colour scheme this year, which looks awesome on the new body shape,” Whincup said.
Graphics front and rear have been kept to a minimum, to showcase the elegant lines of the new Commodore shape while keeping it a bold and aggressive looking race car.
The Red Bull Holden Commodore supercars made their competitive debut when the 2018 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship kicked off with the Adelaide 500 in March.
