CAD data management using Autodesk Vault: Deacon Engineers

In this case study, Deacon Engineers explain why they chose Autodesk Vault to manage their data, and the benefits it has brought to their business.

Deacon Engineers had used Autodesk Inventor 3D computer-aided design (CAD) software from A2K Technologies since their inception, but as a growing organisation expanding into a second office, they realised they needed a solution to manage the integrity of their CAD data.

Ross Vernon, CAD Manager, Deacon Engineers, said "We pride ourselves on being at the forefront of new technologies and technical capabilities, to ensure we're working as efficiently and competitively as possible.

"Our projects were increasing in size, which required multiple people on the same project. As our team grew, we needed more than one person in each area of the design.  To do this using Inventor without Vault is difficult – you start over-riding data and it becomes quite a mess."

Autodesk's Vault data management software was the obvious choice for Deacon Engineers, due to its tight integration into Inventor. Vault helps organise, manage, track data creation, simulation, and documentation processes for design and engineering workgroups.

"After researching possible solutions we saw Vault as being the best solution for managing our Inventor data.  A2K Technologies took the time to explain the complexities and implementation of the software", said Ross.

Vault is a solution to reduce non-value adding work, such as searching for files and modifying file properties one by one.  It provides easier management of design and engineering information, through its ability to quickly find and reuse data, and manage versions and revision history.
